Betta lions, sea tigers, and Rottiflies, oh my!

This is a series of pieces I did as my final for Drawing 100. I enjoy working with prismacolor markers and pencils, though there is the issue of light-fastness:  sadly, the Betta fish lions are no longer purple and have since faded to pink over the years.

One thing I absolutely love is no matter who it is, from professional artist to a classroom full of children, the reaction to”Rottiefly” is always, “AWWWWWW!”

Akuacolor Monotype

These pieces are another version of monotyping working in Akuacolor, which are water-based inks (normal monotyping involves oil-based). To make these pieces, I made a template on a sheet of plastic like a paint-by-numbers, then would roll on whichever color I wanted an printed it. Each color in these pieces is a separate printing layered on top of the previous—hence why there are versions with backgrounds and without. I particularly like how these spotted and striped cats looked before I printed in the backgrounds, so I took photos while they were technically works-in-progress.
